More than 300 staff at its office in Limerick Enterprise Development Park on Childers Road manage customer support, sales, finance, human resources and technical support.

In addition, Chorus ntl has been accredited its first Excellence Through People Award.

Defence Minister Willie O’Dea said: “I’m very encouraged at the announcement. As a native of Limerick and local minister it is a welcome move and clearly supports the Government’s Smart Economy strategy through company’s investment in people and digital technology to advance the midwest region and on a national basis..”

Mary Donnelly, director of Fás in the midwest, presented the company with its excellence award.

She said: “Achieving the national award provides each organisation with a framework for business improvement recognising the importance and centrality of its people. It is a clear statement to customers, suppliers and employees alike that best business practice is at the core of the company.

“Furthermore, a study of Ireland’s top companies has confirmed a strong link between bottom-line business performance and the use of high performance works systems in the workplace.”

Robert Dunn, chief executive of Chorus ntl, said the new jobs, combined with the award, represented a great start to the year for the company.

He said: “Creating 50 positions in our National Contact Management Centre will support existing staff and help the company further to improve our overall customer service. We welcomed 11 staff as customer support agents in November 2009 and 27 commenced work on Monday of this week and we expect the final number to come on board over the summer months. I am delighted that our customer support team was accredited with an Excellence Through People Award at a small ceremony in house this morning. This achievement recognises the contribution made by Chorus ntl staff and validates the progress and improvements made in customer service over the past year.”
