Cowen denies blocking inquiry

TAOISEACH Brian Cowen has denied claims that he blocked an inquiry into the causes of the banking crisis earlier this year.

Mr Cowen also reacted cautiously to the latest call for such an inquiry, made by the newly appointed Central Bank governor Dr Patrick Honohan.

Mr Cowen told the Dáil yesterday that the Government would have to “carefully consider such an inquiry before giving any commitment”.
