THE Health Service Executive has backed down on its decision to cut funding vital treatment for an Irish teenager in the US.

Adam Costello-Doherty, 14, has been travelling to a special clinic in New Jersey for treatment to bolster his immune system since he was seven years old.

Adam’s treatment for common variable immune deficiency had been paid for by the health authority under its Treatment Abroad Scheme but funding was cut in October.
