Mary unveils mountain of Christmas decorations
Mary Connolly’s given away furniture to make more room for her collection and has even joked about turfing her husband out to squeeze in a few extra pieces.
“I just love Christmas,” Mary said last night while standing among her vast collection of some 5,000 pieces.
“It’s my mission in life to find these decorations. No matter where I go in the world, I’m always thinking of Christmas.”
Mary lives with her husband, Denis, and their dog, Jazz, and cat, Elvis, in a normal three-bedroom terraced house just outside Bantry in Co Cork.
Well, it’s normal from January to October at least. But once the Halloween decorations come down on November 2, Mary begins its transformation for Christmas.
As well as the usual outdoor lights and several giant inflatable reindeer, penguins, and Santa figures in the garden, they must find space inside for some 5,000 decorations.
Mary and Denis opened up their home for charity for the first time last year, raising €501, and they hope to raise even more this year for Co-Action and the Bantry Hospice.
Their home, close to Rowa Pharmaceuticals, will open at 4pm tomorrow, and it will be open every Saturday and Sunday until Christmas.
