Gardaí investigate claim that man lost €1m in fraud

GARDAÍ have revealed they are investigating an alleged fraud in Cork county which could have netted at least one man up to €1 million.

Garda sources have indicated a businessman, based in north Cork, alerted them to the crime around six months ago when he was unable to get money returned from a number of investments he made.

Following a lengthy investigation, which is continuing, detectives arrested and questioned a man in his 30s. He was detained under Section Four of the Criminal Justice Act but later released without charge.
