MORE than 40 soldiers have tested positive for drugs since a crackdown started on the use of illegal substances by members of the Defence Forces.

Figures obtained by the Irish Examiner reveal the number of Army members found to have taken drugs remains high despite even more stringent new testing measures rolled out earlier this year.

In total, 41 members have failed drug tests since standard random drug testing was brought into the Army in 2002.
