Shop staff toast €8.5m Lotto win

STAFF at a Dublin supermarket were as bubbly as the champagne they uncorked yesterday to toast the lucky customer who bought the €8.5m winning National Lottery ticket from their store.

Shop staff toast €8.5m Lotto win

Breda Cahill, owner of the Centra Store in Grange Road Retail Park in Rathfarnham, said the winning ticket was a €20 Quick Pick Lotto Plus.

The ticket was bought last Friday, but Ms Cahill said no one had a clue as to the lucky owner might be.

The winning numbers are 3 4 9 16 17 22 and bonus number 12.

“We are a very local shop – very community based, so, hopefully, it is someone living in the community,” Ms Cahill said. “My gut feeling is that the winner lives nearby,” she said.

Ms Cahill, who also owns two other Centra stores in Dublin – one in Ballinteer and on the Blackglen Road – is no stranger to having a Lotto winner.

Her store in Ballinteer sold a four-draw ticket a number of years ago and four people won a share of a €1m jackpot. The prize was never claimed.

Ms Cahill will get €15,000 from the National Lottery for selling the ticket that scooped the weekend jackpot, but the store is planning a special champagne celebration for their customers next week.
