MORE than 50 years after his prize-winning smile was framed in a photographer’s lens, Mossie Knightly finds himself once again under exposure.

The 68-year-old, whose family home is near Keel, Castlemaine, Co Kerry, was one of the many faces snapped by pharmacist-turned-photographer Padraig Kennelly in the 1950s – images which now form the backbone of a historical pictorial of the era.

Mossie’s picture was taken after he shot to fame in 1954 when he successfully chose the winning outfits in a Sunday Press fashion competition. His keen eye for clothes won him £200, a sum he reckons would equate to winning €20,000 today. Despite his win, Mossie claims to have no recollection of what he spent the money on.
