Pipe bomb carried by teen girl was ready to explode

ARMY experts say a homemade pipe bomb which had the potential to maim and kill could have gone off as it was being carried through a busy Limerick housing estate by a teenage girl.

Gardaí on routine patrol in St Mary’s Park spotted the 18-year-old acting suspiciously and when they searched her found she was concealing the device.

The teenager was arrested at the scene and taken to Henry Street Garda station where she was being detained under section 30 of the Offences against the Act, 1939.
