Much-loved role model became a star against the odds

THE family of Stephen Gately said yesterday they were devastated by the sudden death of the Boyzone singer while on holiday on the Spanish island of Majorca.

Solicitor Gerald Kean, spokesperson for the Gatelys, said Stephen’s parents Martin and Margaret were still struggling to come to terms with the shock news of their son’s death on Saturday.

Mr Kean said the family’s biggest concern was to arrange to get their son’s body home to Ireland for burial.
