IRISH consumers have become a prime target for overseas sales callers, according to a British-based company that stops unwanted calls and is now looking to expand its operations in Ireland.

The Call Prevention Registry believes that at least a third of unwanted sales and nuisance calls made to Irish consumers each year are from overseas.

While Ireland’s National Directory Database’s (NDD) opt-in scheme has been very successful at reducing nuisance calls, it has no jurisdiction over controlling unsolicited telephone calls made by overseas sales organisations.
