A SPECIAL committee is to be set up by Cork County Council to look at the feasibility of reducing speed limits in estates to as little as 15mph (25kmph).

There was widespread support among the authority’s 48 councillors yesterday to make estates safer by reducing the current speed limit of 30mph (50kmph).

Cllr John Gilroy (Lab) proposed the move saying parents in particular were very concerned for the safety of young children.
