HOME owners who cause injury to a person breaking into their house or trespassing on their property would be considered to be acting in self-defence, under new laws proposed by Fine Gael.

The party wants to change the current law where a person defending their home with the use of non-fatal force can face criminal charges.

Party spokesperson on Justice Charlie Flanagan said this situation was “ridiculous” because “it tips the balance in favour of the trespasser rather than the home owner.”
