IRELAND’S tax base needs to be widened to make it less susceptible to changes in economic conditions, the Commission on Taxation has warned.

The commission’s chairman, Frank Daly, said reform of the tax system would make Ireland less vulnerable to economic shocks like those experienced in 2009.

In making more than 240 recommendations, the Commission on Taxation said that it was not advocating an overall increase in the levels of taxation.
