YOUNGER motorists could be restricted from driving between 10pm and 6am under new proposals being drafted by the Road Safety Authority.

The authority’s chairman, Gay Byrne, said yesterday a number of proposals are being looked at regarding changes to the driving licence system, including limiting engine size for new motorists or stipulating that they must only carry passengers that are blood relatives.

The restrictions would apply to drivers on provisional licences, and possibly on those who have just got a full licence, and could remain in place for periods of between six months and one year.
