Music festival urges revellers to reel in the years

CORK city is preparing for an action packed weekend as the Decades Festival hits town tonight and tomorrow.

Music festival urges revellers to reel in the years

With 40 venues across the city embracing the concept with fancy dress and music, there will be plenty of choice for patrons.

Everyone should find an era, style or music to your liking.

If you fancy being a bit of a gangster for the weekend then look no further than Sober Lane’s speakeasy or The Long Island Bar’s prohibition gin-joint. !

The Roundy on Castle Street will channel the war years as will The Bodega – think hot jazz and American swing – as An Spailpín Fanac sticks to its roots with a traditional set both nights.

Fun times beckon at Clancy’s and The Crane Lane as you get to shake those hips like a young Elvis circa 1950 while across the city, the sounds of the 60s will echo.

As South Main Street goes back in time, The Classic Beatles will be a big draw at The Classic as will the big red Double Decker bus stopped at Liberty Street and serving The Raven, Cavanaghs and The Courthouse.

Downtown the Pitz of Marlboro St., The Market Tavern, Canty’s and The Long Valley all pay homage to the decade of peace and love.

If ‘70s classics are your poison, then catch live music at Bru, The Ovens, Costigans and The Welcome Inn over the weekend, while the ‘Barefoot Blues’ will be something different at Charlies Bar.
