THE tax on parking at work is to come into force from November, the Irish Examiner has learned.

The €200-a-year levy provoked public uproar when first announced by Finance Minister Brian Lenihan in the October budget and is believed to have been resisted by the civil service because of the complexity of its implementation.

The charge is due to be tested in the D2 or D4 areas of Dublin from November before being rolled out to the rest of the capital, Cork, Limerick, Waterford and Galway “soon afterwards”.
