Gang steals €6.5k worth of alloy wheels

According to gardaí a number of people broke into the Cork City Ford Centre in Forge Hill at about 3.30am.

They smashed the windows of several of the cars to gain access to the boots from which they removed the wheel braces and jacks.

They then used them to prop up 10 Ford cars and remove their wheels.

According to gardaí the group targeted vehicles which, while not all new, all had the more expensive alloy wheels.

Yesterday, the cars, including Mondeos and Focuses remained propped up with old tyres. Officers were yesterday trying to establish how the gang transported the dozens of wheels away.

A Garda spokesman said the wheels were valued at €6,500 and there was €2,500 worth of criminal damage done to the vehicles.

He appealed for anyone with any information to contact Togher Garda station on 021 4947120.
