154 teachers fully paid while on sick leave for 300 days

MORE than 150 teachers have been fully paid while on sick leave for more than 300 days in the past two years.

Sick leave arrangements for teachers are among the public service’s most generous. They are entitled to full pay for certified illness for up to one year in any four-year period.

Nurses, by comparison, are allowed full pay for the first six months in any year and half pay for a further six months, with no more than a year’s paid sick leave allowed in a four-year period.
