Actor’s childhood home up for sale

A HOUSE once owned by Richard Harris in Kilkee, where he spent his childhood summer holidays, is to be sold at public auction next month.

Known as The Billow’s, the house is located at the West End of the resort.

Harris bought the house in 1969 and got his close friend, Manuel Di Lucia to look after it.

Mr Di Lucia, who is agent for the sale, said: “Dickie did it up at great expense and most of the furnishings and fittings were bought in London.”

Manuel and his wife moved into the house as caretakers in 1971 and opened an acclaimed restaurant there.

Richard Harris sold the house in 1974. It has changed ownership several times since. It has a list price of €555,000 and Mr Di Lucia said there has been a good bit of interest.

The auction takes place on August 21 at the Stella Maris Hotel in Kilkee.
