THE Government is to establish a working group to decide upon the future of the former Irish Steel plant in Haulbowline, Co Cork, and the toxic waste it contains.

The group will determine the future use of the former Irish Steel site and how to deal with the waste, some of which was identified as the highly carcinogenic Chromium 6.

Headed by the Office of Public Works, the group will include a number of other government departments and state agencies, Environment Minister John Gormley announced yesterday.
