Special accolade for top city hotel
The hotel received the second quarter Cork Business Association/Heineken Ireland Business of the Year Award at a special reception held in the brewery last night.
James O’Sullivan, chairman of the judging panel, said the hotel was the catalyst which helped to bring a redeveloped part of the city to life.
“The Clarion Hotel was the first anchor tenant in this City Quarter development and helped to make the area a vibrant and integral part of Cork City,” he said. “The whole City Quarter is a huge addition and to have a hotel with the calibre of the Clarion there is great.
“The Clarion has earned its stripes and credit is due to Charlie Sheil and his staff for their professionalism. They thoroughly deserve this award.”
The award, sponsored by Heineken Ireland and the Irish Examiner, recognises the value and achievement of Cork businesses and acknowledges those that have contributed to, or promoted the enhancement of the commercial, cultural or civic life of Cork.
Hotel manager Charlie Shiel accepted the award on behalf of his staff.
“We are delighted to be honoured with this great award,” he said.
“The hotel has been very committed to providing excellent service and working closely with all in the local community over the past four and half years. This award provides us with great inspiration to continue our efforts and build for the future.”
