GREEN leaders were last night confident of getting their membership to finally allow the party to campaign for a yes vote to Lisbon.

John Gormley fell just short of achieving the two-thirds mandate needed for the junior coalition party to throw its weight behind the pro-treaty side last time out, but a special conference later this month looks set to endorse such a stand ahead of the autumnal re-run of the referendum.

A walk-out from the party by major anti-treaty campaigners like Patricia McKenna should ensure Mr Gormley gets his way.
