JUDGES should have been forced to pay the pension tax regardless of legal advice from the Attorney General, Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny last night insisted.

He accused the Taoiseach of lacking the political backbone to make the senior judiciary surrender the levy along with 300,000 other public servants.

Mr Kenny warned that it was unacceptable judges had been exempted when gardaí, nurses and teachers were being left with just €90 a week to live on because of the swingeing level of taxes imposed following the economic plunge.
