Sun smiles on Cork’s 10,000 marathon runners
If Bord Gais, the main sponsors, could have harnessed all the energy displayed by the 10,000 runners on the streets yesterday, they could probably offer even greater savings in their Big Switch campaign.
But the brightest energy came from above and, best of all, it was totally free. There was something alien about the golden globe in the sky, though, as it emerged like a long-lost cousin. The sun shone, the onlookers basked and the participants baked as El Sol beamed down on the racers and the 30,000 onlookers who lined the streets on the banks of the Lee.
