Mystery after body is found in car
While initial reports said he had been violently attacked, a post mortem proved to be inconclusive as to the cause of death and found he had no signs of trauma.
Toxicology tests will be conducted on the 30-year-old to test for the presence of alcohol and any other substances.
The man, named locally as Martin Sejna, was found in the boot of his car in Dublin’s south inner city late on Monday night.
He had been reported missing by a friend, thought to be his girlfriend, after he met her in Naas, Co Kildare, on Saturday night. Mr Sejna lives in Navan, Co Meath, but works in a financial firm in Naas.
While gardaí are investigating the possibility he may have consumed a large amount of alcohol, they have not ruled out the involvement of another person. “For obvious reasons, the fact that he was in the boot of his car, we are treating the death as suspicious,” said a Garda source.
Gardaí said that Mr Sejna’s family and friends, who were out looking for him, managed to come across his car, parked on Island Street, in the south inner city, on Monday night.
They could not see him in the car and rang gardaí. Gardaí from Kevin Street Garda Station arrived at the scene at 11.30pm and discovered him in the boot. Officers from the Garda Technical Bureau started an examination of the car and continued throughout yesterday.
Assistant State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis carried out a preliminary post mortem at the scene. The body was then taken to the city morgue for a full post mortem.
Gardaí said a large investigation was underway, involving gardaí in Kevin Street, Naas, and Navan, along with the Technical Bureau and the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
