THE country’s largest and most detailed flood defence project was launched yesterday with major projects dependent on government funding.

Minister of State, Martin Mansergh, who has responsibility for the Office of Public Works (OPW), said the implementation of the plan, which identifies at-risk zones in the Lee catchment area in Cork, will be dependent on resources and competing demands from other flood zones.

“The economic situation will remain difficult in coming years but I will endeavour to ensure that funds will be available for the programme,” he said.
