Man facing job loss wins €650k

A LIMERICK punter who is about to lose his job scooped €650,000 from a e5 bet at a Ladbrokes office in Limerick.

The unnamed soccer fan placed his bet on the English and Scottish leagues.

He placed an accumulator 11-element bet in which he nominated nine team wins and two draws.

Gerry Kiely of Ladbrokes said the bet was placed at their Davis Street office and the lucky punter came to collect his money on Wednesday.

Mr Kiely said: “All we can say about him is that he is a construction worker who is on protective notice. He is married with three children.”

One regular at Ladbrokes in Davis Street said he knew the winner, but did not wish to identify him.

He said: “I know he is very much into soccer and also bets on golf. I didn’t realise that he had struck it so lucky until somebody told me yesterday when I went to have a few bets. It’s great to see a fellow about to lose his job win like this and it will certainly help him through the job lay-off he’s facing into.”
