A 15-YEAR-OLD boy forced by his school to cut his hair has been awarded €1,000 by the Equality Tribunal.

During the case, the boy’s representative drew attention to a photograph from the 1870s showing the original male founder of the school with shoulder-length hair.

Equality officer Brian O’Byrne said the photograph was used to demonstrate the point “that long hair for men has been fashionable for centuries and that, over the years, both male and females have always endeavoured to follow conventional trends in hairstyles”.
