IRISH rugby fans travelling to Cardiff this weekend for the country’s first potential Grand Slam since 1948 can expect a recession-inducing dent to their wallets to witness such a historic event.

Most fans who are belatedly making plans to travel to the Welsh capital are likely to spend at least €1,000 on tickets, travel and accommodation for the final rugby weekend of the Six Nations season.

Tickets for the eagerly awaited clash against Wales at the Millennium Stadium next Saturday are commanding an asking price of about €400 each on the black market, while the cost of travel and accommodation has also soared as thousands of fans prepare to make their way across the Irish Sea for the match.
