Voters mad for trad as brothers take €50k title

RTÉ’s All Ireland Talent Show final saw Daithí Ó Sé’s act, The Mulkerrin Brothers, taking first place and e50,000 prize money.

The all-playing, all-dancing traditional trio managed by a tight margin to score more votes ahead of half pint-sized breakdancer Jack Lynch.

The seven-year-old was described by O Sé as “a horse and cart of a man”.

Hotly tipped funky fiddler Daithí O Dronaí took sixth place in the grand final.

But in the final stages of the competition all safe money was on the Mulkerrin brothers who were given odds of 2/1 with the bookmakers.

Ó Sé said he was caught for words to express his delight at the win by the “strong family unit”.

He may not have won the top prize, but seven-year-old Jack Lynch won many hearts in the course of the competition.

Dancing like a true professional, bounding around the stage and illustrating various types of dance genres, his performances were amazing.

Judge John Creedon said of his act: “I am so happy I got to know Jack and his family...he’s a champ”.

The Mulkerrin Brothers, from Inis Mór, Arainn, have become legends since being voted through to the final.

The three brothers, Padraig, Éamonn and Seán, who perform traditional Irish music and sean nós dancing, fended off Dublin twins Bert and Victor O’Brien, Cliona Hagan and Donna Marie Sludds, who also took part in the final.
