A SPECIAL committee which oversees a local authority’s finances was apparently kept in the dark for several months about issues arising from an internal probe which discovered a potential e1 million hole in its books.

The news emerged last night as a Garda probe continues following the discovery of “irregularities” in Cork city’s bin tags and parking discs distribution system.

City council officials confirmed last month that the matter had been referred to gardaí after an internal audit raised “various concerns ” about how the system is operating.
