COMMUNICATIONS Minister Eamon Ryan said it is absolutely essential major infrastructure projects like the Dublin metro are not shelved to balance the national budget.

Mr Ryan said the Green Party would insist that construction of the metro, the rail line connecting Heuston and Connolly stations, and new bus services in Galway, Limerick and Cork go ahead.

“If there has to be hard decisions taken, if there has to be reallocations of money because of tighter budgets, what I am saying clearly is our absolute and utter determination and conviction that that money now goes to public transport.
