Just 1 in 6 senior university jobs held by women

IRISH universities are still dominated by men as only one-in-six senior management jobs are held by women and most of their management boards have not reached Government recommendations on gender equality.

A study by Professor Pat O’Connor, dean at University of Limerick’s faculty of arts, humanities and social sciences, highlighted previous findings that less than 40% of university teachers and fewer than one-in-five professors are women.

However, she said it was a scandal that figures on the gender of lecturers and professors have not been published by the Higher Education Authority (HEA) since 2004, having previously been published annually.
