University brings legal claim for €5.2m over alleged roof defects

THE University of Limerick has brought a legal claim seeking €5.2 million over alleged defects in its new Health Sciences Building which have caused such extensive water damage that the roof of the building will have to be replaced.

Sixty-five points of leakage into the building had been identified in the past two years, it is claimed. Some of the leakages are in rooms containing expensive electronic medical equipment while one leak affects the room housing the computer service for the north campus of the university.

The proceedings by Plassey Campus Developments Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Limerick, and UL itself were admitted to the Commercial Court list yesterday by Mr Justice Peter Kelly and adjourned on consent of the sides for a week.
