Chip shop arson attack may be linked to Keane’s release

The chip shop in St Munchin’s Street, St Mary’s Park was also damaged three weeks ago in another arson attack. On that occasion, a number of cars, one valued at €70,000, belonging to relatives of Keane, were destroyed.

Christy Keane is due for release after serving a 10-year sentence for a major drugs crime. Gardaí have not ruled out the possibility the attack was carried out in the belief that he was going to be released and was timed to coincide with this.
