Taoiseach issues stark warning of ‘very difficult years ahead’

TAOISEACH Brian Cowen has warned of the “very difficult years ahead” when economic turmoil will touch the lives of almost all Irish people.

At his speech to mark the 90th anniversary of the first Dáil, Brian Cowen yesterday called on everyone to work together “in partnership and in solidarity” for the good of the country.

He said the founding fathers who carved out the country’s independence against the British Empire “faced daunting challenges”. He said: “They succeeded, so too will we.”
