FF councillor ‘upset’ over selection of Martin’s brother

A ROW has broken out between a Fianna Fáil councillor and the Foreign Affairs Minister after she claimed that Micheál Martin was trying to unseat her in favour of one of his brothers.

Cllr Deirdre Forde has taken exception to the fact that Micheál Martin’s twin brother, Padraig, has been selected to contest a Cork County Council seat in next June’s local elections. She’s annoyed the party has chosen him to contest the seat, especially as he lives just a short distance from her in the suburb of Douglas.

“I am upset and extremely disappointed by this decision and worried about retaining my seat. It makes the next election extremely difficult for me because... [Padraig] Martin and myself will be looking for the same votes. He will get first-hand support from his brother, whereas I have very limited resources,” Ms Forde said.
