Government may delay public sector pay scale increments

THE Government may withhold not only the increases due to public sector workers under the new national wage agreement but also their pay scale increments in an attempt to revive the economy.

Public service workers are due to receive 6% increases under the new wage deal, with the first 3.5% due after an 11-month pay pause.

However, it is believed the Government may seek a lengthening of that pay freeze as part of a parcel of measures to revive the ailing exchequer funds.
