Gilmore: Government should halt repossessions

THE Government should step in to prevent banks repossessing the homes of those suffering financially because of the recession, Labour leader Eamon Gilmore has said.

Speaking in the Dáil yesterday, Mr Gilmore said various banks and building societies had brought 37 repossession cases to the High Court last Monday alone.

“If there were 37 cases before the courts, it is fair to assume that several hundred homes have been repossessed without having to go to court.”
