Moriarty tribunal threatens injunctions against papers

THE long-running Moriarty tribunal that completed its public hearings last May has threatened injunctions against at least two Irish newspapers in relation to its conclusions.

Both the Sunday Business Post and The Irish Times were warned that they would be injuncted if they tried to publish articles revealing its preliminary findings.

Sunday Business Post editor Cliff Taylor confirmed yesterday it had received correspondence from the tribunal on Saturday morning in relation to an article they had planned to publish in yesterday’s edition.
