Deal averts Aer Lingus strike threat

AER LINGUS passengers will be able to travel next week after the airline and unions agreed alternative proposals to the company’s plans to outsource or make redundant 1,300 staff which would have triggered all-out strike action.

The union had been due to ground the airline and passengers from next Monday over the company’s plans to get rid of the staff, saving €50 million of an overall €74m package.

For the last week unions and management have been engaged in round-the-clock negotiations over the union’s alternative suggestions for recouping the €50m.
