A GOOD deal for Irish farmers was how Agriculture Minister Brendan Smith described the outcome of the Common Agricultural Policy health check.

European Union agriculture ministers reached agreement in Brussels early yesterday after difficult, all-night negotiations.

Mr Smith said the health check will deliver some €170 million to Irish farmers over the next five years.
