Garda body satisfied with surveillance evidence plan

GARDA representatives yesterday welcomed government plans to allow gardaí use evidence obtained by surveillance in court cases.

But a senior law lecturer said the proposed legislation on surveillance could face a constitutional challenge.

The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors (AGSI) said the bill, published by Justice Minister Dermot Ahern on Tuesday, could prove useful to gardaí combating organised crime.
