WITH just five days to go before Aer Lingus staff could ground the airline and thousands of its passengers, protracted talks between management and unions on divisive cost saving measures still remain deadlocked.

The two sides return to the Labour Relations Commission (LRC) today for yet another period of negotiation on alternatives to the company’s plans to get rid of 1,500 staff.

Management still remains to be convinced that the union’s proposals for €50m in cost savings are as viable as its outsourcing and redundancy plans.
