MALLOW General Hospital’s emergency department is to get a long overdue facelift — just in time for a visit from Health Minister Mary Harney.

But Labour’s Sean Sherlock believes it was “more than a coincidence” the work was being carried out in advance of the minister’s visit. The Cork East TD claimed the hospital “had been crying out for a lick of paint for ages”.

The HSE said work on the emergency department would include the installation of an air conditioning unit, new flooring, suspended ceilings, electrical upgrading and repainting.
