Cabinet considers tax breaks for health premiums

ANTICIPATED huge increases in the cost of health insurance for older and sicker patients may be averted under Government plans to introduce tax breaks on premiums.

Ministers will discuss plans at today’s cabinet meeting for providing more generous tax credits for insurance companies for older customers and lowering the tax relief currently available for younger patients.

The plan is aimed at off-setting the cost of insuring higher-risk groups.
