Harney: PDs lack the capacity to elect people

SPEAKING ahead of Saturday’s special conference to discuss the future of the Progressive Democrats, Health Minister Mary Harney said she wished the party had a viable future but said the reality was it lacked the capacity to elect people to the national parliament.

Ms Harney also refused to comment on speculation she will resign from the party if members vote against its dissolution at the conference.

“After that meeting makes a determination, I will comment in public about the various issues that arise. But in advance of that, I’m not going to make any public comment because that would not be helpful,” she said yesterday.
