JUSTICE Minister Dermot Ahern has been accused of “twisting” the findings of the Morris Tribunal to “smear the name” of his opponents and cover the Government’s own mistakes.

A row broke out in the Dáil yesterday after Mr Ahern used a debate on the tribunal to criticise Labour TD Brendan Howlin and Fine Gael MEP Jim Higgins over how they dealt with allegations made to them about Garda corruption in Donegal.

Mr Ahern said he supported the tribunal’s criticism of Mr Howlin and Mr Higgins for not revealing their sources.
