U-turn by SF on support for plan

SINN FÉIN reversed its stance and opposed the banking bailout.

When the broad outline of the guarantee scheme was brought before the Dáil a fortnight ago only Labour voted against it. The Labour move was seen at the time as an effort to reassert its working-class credentials.

Some commentators suggested Sinn Féin had erred politically by not also opposing the bailout.
